Summer of 2021 marked an impressive comeback for the Club, after a challenging year. The success of the Clubhouse this past summer is a wonderful example of the dedicated community here in Small Point. Despite the assaults of time and weather over the last hundred plus years, the Club has returned as that charming and inviting place to gather with friends and family to celebrate the summer traditions that sustain us as a community.
The job of the SPC Preservation Fund is to protect these traditions by maintaining the character of our beloved building, which is listed on The National Register of Historic Places. The Preservation Fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, dedicated to preserving the exterior and related infrastructure of the building. By maintaining our 501(c) (3) status, Club members are able to make tax-deductible donations to our Annual Appeal.
Last year’s Appeal brought in $15,000. This is lower than in years past, which we attribute to a tricky fundraising year along with some road bumps while digitizing our process. Despite this, the Fund made our largest contribution to the Club to date, deploying $42,000 to repair the roof, the fire escape, the decking above the cage, porch, and sill, and framing repairs under the deck.
We all recognize that the well-being of the Club’s physical structure is necessary for the long haul. The Preservation Fund Board is dedicated to collaborating with the SPC Board to ensure that this defining centerpiece of the community will pass on to future generations with its essential integrity intact.
The Club will be celebrating its 125th birthday this year! What better way to honor the history, tradition, and joy the building provides than by donating to our Annual Appeal.
