And to our Phippsburg  Community Organizations    As we approach the time of year that traditionally represents giving and gratefulness, Martie Janeway has asked me to compile a list of nonprofits/causes that are based here, so we could be informed and show our generosity to those organizations that make Phippsburg a special community. Note that this is not an exhaustive list—just a few suggestions.

Many thanks in advance for your generosity!

Albert F. Totman Library
28 Parker Head Road
Phippsburg, 04562
For more info: http://www.totmanlibrary.org/contact/
The mission of the Albert F. Totman Library is to provide materials and services for community residents of all ages for personal enrichment, enjoyment and educational needs. The Library serves as a learning and educational center for all residents of the community.

Phippsburg Community Garden
The community garden was launched two years ago, and has taken off, thanks to the energy of a well-organized team of volunteers—some of which included Small Pointers. Much of the produce is offered at no cost to the community via a Sharing Table each Wednesday during harvest (you may have noticed signage on the left on the way to the Transfer Station). Although many folks donate time and materials, there remain ongoing expenses: trees and undergrowth need to be cleared; mulch and compost purchased; and the possibility of installing an irrigation system this or next year. Volunteers and financial support are both welcome. Checks can be made out to the Town of Phippsburg, and on the memo line, indicate: Community Garden.

Phippsburg Elementary School

  • Band: the new music teacher has recently ordered new educational materials as well and has had all the PES instruments cleaned and overhauled (an expense that has been deferred for several years). Each participating student also receives a t-shirt in the spring
  • School Library: the annual budget supports this category, but funds to purchase multiple copies of new titles is always appreciated.
  • General Supplies: on occasion, unexpected, nonbudgeted expenses arise, and having a financial “cushion” is helpful.
  • PTA Scholarship Fund: Due to COVID, the PTA/Phippsburg Rec was not able to host their annual Scholarship Craft Fair this year. The purpose of this fundraiser has been to support up to six $500 scholarships they award to graduating Morse High School seniors who live in and attended Phippsburg School. Please make checks payable to Phippsburg PTA, with scholarship fund on the memo line.
  • Bottle Return Project: There are two bins (one at the school and the other at Hawke’s Tree Service at Winnegance) that are used to collect bottles and cans for deposit. The income from this activity (about $3,000 annually) supports several educational field trips as well as visiting authors. Volunteer assistance is desperately needed to help keep up with the process of delivering the returnables to the redemption center.
