After careful consideration, the SP Club Board has made the decision to forego two important Club offerings this 2020 season: room rentals and live events.

This means that the Club will not be open as a gathering spot, for meals and beverages.

The Club will, however, offer some limited, safe services (see below) consistent with the letter and spirit of the governor’s plans for safely restarting the Maine economy, available here.

This has been a very difficult decision to make.  We have tried very hard over several years to make the Club a vibrant hub of Community activity – and we feel that we have been very successful.  Not having the Club as a vital part of our Small Point life this season will leave a hole in the summer for those of us who are in Small Point.

Because Small Point is a small, intimate community with a good percentage of older, high-risk people in our summer population, we made the choice to ensure that the Club would in no way be a source for adding any measure of coronavirus risk to the wider SP community.  We could never forgive ourselves, and would never be forgiven, if we were to offer a room to someone who brought COVID-19 to the SP Community, or if we had a dinner, a dance, an art show, or any other event that increased the risk of spreading this dangerous virus to our community.  It is for this reason, that we are erring on the side of caution by including the whole 2020 season in our decision.

For those of you who were planning a family reunion, a wedding or those of you looking forward to our lectures, art shows, dances or just dinner and cocktails on the porch, we are profoundly sorry.  We hope you will understand our difficult situation, and we hope you will reschedule those plans and hopes for next year when we will certainly be in a better situation.

Like many country clubs, restaurants and other hospitality-oriented organizations, the Club will maintain a small staff this summer: Bob Kennedy and chef Rob Johnson, as well as Ginny Chaput our bookkeeper.  Bob and Rob have agreed to isolate themselves for the required 14 days after the arrive.  They will focus on making improvements to our building and will help the Club offer safe services to the community, such as take-out meals and the like.  Please stay tuned for the next Tidings that will provide further details on these services.

Please stay safe and stay well!
