In 2012, Sumner Crawford bought a drone and strapped a GoPro to it. He quickly realized that his effort to distract from the routine of daily life would become his passion and career. In his time as a professional drone pilot specializing in aerial media, he has spent countless hours perfecting the precision required to effectively capture the unparalleled views you can only get from a drone. His favorite subjects are vivid sunsets, the calmness of water creating reflective symmetry […]

Speaker Series: Isabel Farrington Thursday, August 20th @ 5pm

Telling the Story of the Trail

From a cheering, 20,000 person crowd in NY’s Washington Square Park to a somber gathering of 100 in the opioid-ravaged town of Kermit, WV: a political campaign will truly take you everywhere — both emotionally and physically. So how do you tell that story? In this talk, Isabel will give a peek inside the unique experience of producing video for Warren’s 2020 presidential bid: documenting policy, movement-building, and history as it happened in real time.

Notice about 2020 Annual Meeting

Dear SPC members, families, and friends,

We can all agree that the past months have been strange and unsettling, different in so many ways  as a result of the continuing danger of the covid virus in our communities. It has seemed particularly strange and sad this summer in Small Point not to have been able to open up the Club to in-person gatherings, events, and meals or to overnight guests. We want to say again how grateful we are to you all for understanding why the Board […]

Last week’s Speaker: Kevin Sudeith, Petroglyphist

Kevin Sudeith is an artist who specializes in petroglyphs, the ancient art of rock carving. Since 2007, he has carved his way across North America, living out of his van, depicting in stone the lives and stories of the people and places he visits.

Kevin’s current project site is, luckily for us, right here in Phippsburg. His August 6th talk covered his previous projects, detailing the creative process as well as his process for choosing carving subjects. His aim is to incorporate what is on the cusp of […]

Renewal Coming Home – original oil on canvas – 48×48 – $8200

At a distance…

At a distance… we often see more than we otherwise would.
We feel more deeply than we might otherwise feel.
Distance can make you work to truly see, and
It blurs detail but gives you space to insert your own.

Distance can wrap itself warmly around you
or it can make you feel completely and coldly alone.

And magically…
it can make you feel closer… to yourself and […]
