some thoughts about my work:
All my life, (so far!) I have gone outside to meander home. It is a gateway to the source of my work. Being outside, I can leave behind the thought of a being ‘in’ nature and instead become a ‘being of’ nature. In this zone the external landscape and my internal experience of the forces of multiple dimensions become inseparable. When luck opens, I am blessed with fleeting revelations of the fierce beauty and joy of being alive. A seed of mystery is planted.
Later, in the time and space of my studio, I am like a gardener harboring this seed’s hidden growth. Only, I am an artist in a love affair with the alchemy of paint. Traversing the cycles of constructing, painting, sanding, and scratching back, a story emerges from the layered history of the painting.
When the seed has established its roots in the dark and shoots become visible in the light, my creative process slows down. It is a time to visually listen, and through contemplative pruning, find the final gestures that keep the painting alive, vital and sensuous. Enjoy
